Drumset players looking for a challenge will certainly find one in this new book by Osami Mizuno in collaboration with Vinnie Colaiuta. Illusions in Rhythm is really all about developing the ability to perform hemiolas and superimpose them over other rhythms. As Mizuno makes clear, the concepts and exercises were inspired by his study with Alan Dawson as well as his exposure to Tony Williams. The exercises begin with simple hemiola groupings, such as grouping triplets into groups of four notes and moving them across the barline. Five-and seven-note groupings are also explored. Soon, more complex combinations are presented in various musical contexts. The concepts are applied to several different styles including swing, samba, shuffle and rock/funk grooves. All the exercises are written in a clear format that shows how all the notes line up. This book is for serious drummers who desire to add a new dimension to their playing. 著者について 水野オサミ 1954年2月1日生まれ、東京都出身。 教育大(現-筑波大)附属高校を卒後、十代で天才ドラマー、トニー ウィリアム ス の洗礼を受け渡米しバークリー音学院に在籍する。トニー ウィリアムスの師 アラン ドーソン先生に約5年間にわたり師事を受ける。同期の友人には、現在第 一線で活躍しているステーヴ・スミス、ハーヴィ・メイソン、ヴイニー・カリウ タ、シンディ・ ブラックマン等....多数いる。 90年代に入りサックスのマルタ、中国民族楽器奏者で映画『ラストエンペラー』 の作曲を手がけた劉宏軍、海外でもたいへん活躍している藤原清登(ベース) 若者から圧倒的に支持されているDJ.KRUSHらと国立劇場を始め、コンサートを開 いている。1999年4月 打楽器軍団と共に横浜アリーナに出演し和太鼓のエネル ギー、 圧倒的 パワーに大いに触発され感動し2002年夏にCDを発売。 演奏活動の傍ら指導者として1997年より故アラン ドーソン先生のメソッド を多 くの人に伝えるため、ALAN DAWSON DRUM SCHOOL IN JAPAN を設立、主宰 他にメ イト音楽学院にて後進の指導にあたった。1986年9月2日 故トニー・ウィリア ムスが特別にドラムクリニックを弟子の為に開催した。ALAN DAWSON DRUM SCHOOL IN JAPANにて ステーヴ・スミス、ハーヴィ・メイソンが 、また2002年 11月19日プリンスと来日中のドラマー ジョン・ブラックウエル (日本では ウタダヒカルのドラマーとして著明)やはりアランに可愛がられた 若手の注目 のドラマーがマスタークラスを行なった。 2003年11月23日 キューバ出身で今世界が最も注目するドラマーオラシオと "Tribute to Ron Spagnardi, & Taku Kawai" special solo performance by Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez を開催した。 2005年、池袋西武デパート主催のコミュニティ・カレッジにて ジャンルを超え て楽 しむオトナのための音楽"というタイトルで講座を開催。キィボードプレイ ヤー モー ガン・フィッシャー氏初め多彩なゲストを毎回迎え、新しい音楽の コラボレーション を繰り広げた。 著者として、1998年アラン ドーソン・ドラムメソッドVol.1を音楽之友社より出 版、 99年、アラン ドーソン・ドラムメソッドVol.2をアメリカン-ロックバンド の雄、 に参加した親友スティーブ スミスと共著で出版した。 2001年4月号より7月号までの4回にわたり、アメリカの『モダンドラマー誌』の Rudimental Symposiumとりあげられ、全米、ヨーロッパにメソッドが紹介され た。 その際 "Dawsonisms" という素敵なネーミングがモダンドラマー編集長 故ロン 氏からの粋な計らいで与えられた。2002年夏より、ネットワークE-Groupを使用 した組織ドーソニズムスを主宰、 また弟子達による組織、『DAWSONISMS SCHOOL DIVISION』を監修している。2004年 Office Mizunoよりレーベルを立ち上げ、 CD制作を積極的に行なっている。 2005年11月号『モダンドラマー誌』のCD レビューに 水野オサミのリーダー作 TENMA が紹介され、その際4つ星の評価を得た。
